The two photographs of the early morning coastal fog and the fallen redwood tree were taken with entirely different cameras. The trees and fog image is from my Canon t8i, and the upper photo of the redwood trees was taken with my iPhone. Both produce fine photography.

I Like mysteries. Ken Kesey wrote “The answer is never the answer. What’s really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you’ll always be seeking”. Not having an answer and continuing to seek may sound foreboding to many. However, I believe it will resonate with many artists and those who seek the off-beaten path. Aren’t we photographers searching for some mystery amongst the all too familiar?

I believe most people don’t take a lot of time to evaluate a photograph, because we are all inundated with images every day. What was once a great wonder in the mid nineteenth century has become commonplace today. We have to take time to look. Have we lost our sense of wonder? Or can we still find the mystery, the magic? I believe a childlike sense of discovery exists when I look in the viewfinder. I slow down and become aware of my surroundings, as I compose the image I am immersed in the present moment, like a child. Keeping that sense of wonder in the present moment from being squashed by my inner critic is much of the real work.

One lone Blue Angel Klamath Falls, Oregon 2025

These fine photographs were taken during an airshow of The Blue Angels at Kingsley Field here in Klamath Falls. This lone fighter came right over my head. We parked early in a spot with good visibility and they flew right over our heads. The jets were so loud I had to put on serious hearing protection. The four jets below came right over the nearby housetops.

In March I was in Waldport Oregon, and I spent some time walking along the beach. I was especially drawn to the dunes and seagrass because of their subtle beauty. The close tonalities of the sand and grass provided both comparison and contrast. The brown of the grass echoes the color of the sand, while the varied colors of the grass and its’ shapes and textures contrast the smooth sand. The Pacific Ocean rolls to shore in the background.
